Owen D. Beverlin, DO
General Surgeon
My biggest wish for my patients is that they feel heard and validated. I want us to work together as a team to come up with a solution that creates a life improvement for them.
Dr. Owen D. Beverlin is a general surgeon practicing with Wichita Surgical Specialists.
He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas.
Although he was born in Carrollton, Texas, Dr. Beverlin grew up just outside of Elbing, Kansas, about 30 miles northeast of Wichita. For the early part of his life, Dr. Beverlin was determined he was going to be a mechanic or a farmer, and spent his free time playing sports or farming.
Over the years, he enjoyed figuring out the inner workings of objects, taking them apart and putting them back together. On the farm, he developed a love for repairing things. He went to college with the desire to be in the medical field, gravitating toward athletic training with his sports background. After injuring his knee and requiring surgery, he had the chance to shadow a surgeon. “From the second I stepped into the operating room, I just knew I needed to be a surgeon,” he explained.
Dr. Beverlin said the culmination of his life experiences and his love for mechanical things ties perfectly into the field of surgery. “I feel very blessed to be able to help those in my community and take great value in giving my best to help those I encounter,” he said.
According to Dr. Beverlin, medicine, including surgery, is far more than “cut and sew.” He views surgery as a calling and believes he was uniquely designed to be a surgeon. “As surgeons, we interact with people in some of the scariest times of their lives,” he stated. “It’s important to do all I can to help the patient and their loved ones through those times in a caring and meaningful way.”
Training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita allowed Dr. Beverlin first-hand experience with Wichita Surgical Specialists surgeons. “It became clear to me that Wichita Surgical Specialists fosters a culture of excellence,” he explained. “I’m very proud of the impact WSS has on the Wichita area and look forward to being a part of training future generations.”
When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Beverlin can be found on his bike or with his family. He and his wife, who is an OBGYN, love traveling in their camper van and exploring the United States. “I met my wife in medical school,” he said. “Most of our life revolves around medicine and it is our passion to give our very best to those we come across every day.”
