Andrew C. DeClerk, MD
Vascular Surgeon
My biggest wish for my patients is that they feel comfortable asking questions, taking an active role in the decisions regarding their health, and have no concerns at the end of the day regarding their plan of care.
Dr. Andrew C. DeClerk is a vascular surgeon practicing with Wichita Surgical Specialists. He specializes in vascular surgery with a focus on endovascular aortic and limb surgery, aortic aneurysms and dissections, and limb salvage. He also performs carotid surgery and stenting, dialysis access, and surgery for DVT and venous disease.
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. DeClerk received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. He completed his vascular surgery fellowship through Medical City Healthcare in Plano, Texas.
Dr. DeClerk’s decision to become a physician has been a lifelong commitment, shaped by both family influence and personal experience. He comes from a family of nurses, and his grandfather was a physician. “He practiced in the small town of Pocahontas, Arkansas, and was part of the last generation of doctors who did everything—from house calls and delivering babies to setting fractures and performing surgeries,” Dr. DeClerk explained. “His stories, along with the encouragement of my family, inspired me to pursue medicine.”
His perspective as a surgeon has also been influenced by his father’s journey with esophageal cancer, which gave him a deeper understanding of and sympathy for the patient experience and continues to shape how he approaches patient care and communication.
Dr. DeClerk’s interest in vascular surgery was sparked during his general surgery residency in Wichita. He was drawn to the opportunity to address life-limiting and life-threatening conditions to significantly improve a patient’s quality of life. “My goal as a vascular surgeon is to deliver timely, up-to-date, and efficient care to each patient, ensuring that their individual concerns and medical needs are addressed in the most effective way possible,” he said.
According to Dr. DeClerk, practicing at Wichita Surgical Specialists creates the best opportunities for providing exceptional patient care to the Wichita community and surrounding areas.
Outside of medicine, Dr. DeClerk enjoys spending time with his wife Ashley (a Wichita native and Shocker alum) and their three dogs. His hobbies include brewing beer, running, cycling and DIY work. His latest adventure is scuba diving, and he is a die-hard Arkansas Razorbacks sports fan.
