Bethany G. Harpole, MD

My hope for my patients is that they understand their diagnoses and all the treatment options we have, so they can get excellent care and return as quickly as possible to living their best possible life.

Bethany Harpole, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with Wichita Surgical Specialists, performing surgical care on the heart, aorta and vasculature, lungs, chest wall and trachea.

Dr. Harpole was born in Iowa and has been quite the world traveler, but is grateful to be back in Wichita. “The Midwest has always been my home at heart, and I’m excited to return to Kansas.”

After obtaining undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Biology, Dr. Harpole studied medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, where she was also involved in research and community outreach. She completed five years of General Surgery training in Wichita, and then completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center outside Chicago, Illinois.

“Cardiothoracic surgeries are beautiful and complex, and lead to great outcomes for patients,” said Dr. Harpole. “I also appreciate the team approach cardiothoracic surgery requires. We get to work closely with many types of medical doctors, as well as great nurses, respiratory and physical therapists and many others to create the safest and best care for the patient.”
